Just got permission from ARRI to share the new LUT’s to convert Alexa LogC to REC709.
These LUT’s are in Iridas .cube format and therefor easy to use with other apps.
For Resolve you only need to use the EE version.

These v2 LUT’s behave much better with over and underexposed shots.

Quick tip I just got from the DaVinci helpdesk:

Use the LUT on its own node and add grading to the next. Autograde does not work when applied to the same node.

Big thanks to the people from ARRI for creating them.

Be aware that these LUT’s are now for V1 of the LogC.
ARRI has updated their color science to V3 and will release the final firmware 14 Feb.
Shoots done with V3 will need different LUT’s, that counts for the LogC and for RAW.
I got a promise for new ones to be out soon too.

    Background:
V1 was the colorscience of the D21 camera. When you apply the LUT you will see a tendency to get oversatured REC 709, the same counts for the camera output in REC709.
V3 is specially developed for the Alexa and will give (even)better colors.

Ok thanks for the heads up.

I am working with footage from the latest firmware, I’m assuming V2.1? Is it using the same color science as v1?

So footage shot on alexa v2 may look better when rendered through the v3 colorscience based LUT? Or should only footage acquired through v3 firmware use the v3 colorscience based LUTS?

Did you develop these LUT’s or just release them? Will there be new LUTs based on the new firmware posted soon as well?

    Thanks!

Use the V1 LUT’s with all current footage.
When V3 is out, use V3 LUTS for shots that are than with V3 firmware, older footage will still need the matching V1/V2 LUT’s.

All credits for creating them go to the ARRI team. I have just been testing them and giving feedback. Since they are updating their pages and there was no place yet for the LUT’s they are posted on my site (with permission from ARRI).

The plan is (and it was live for a while) that you go on the ARRI site, choose your device and the LUT’s will be created on the fly.

V3 LUT’s will be out shortly after the release of V3 firmware but I have no files or fixed date yet.
Will post here when they are out.

Just did some test with the new V3 LUT’s and they work well. A bit less saturated REC709 but thats a matter of taste and easy to set.

I will not be posting them on my site because the ARRI website with LUT generator will be up in the next few days.
