February 3, 2006 at 8:53 amWell everyone has been saying the price of P2 will drop…….
At this rate by the end of the year an 8gb P2 card should cost about the same as a roll of beta tape!

Hi,
Go back to your dealer and tell them you would appreciate price protection. If you have a problem please contact me off line, crittendenj at us.panasonic.com.

February 3, 2006 at 12:55 pm[David Saraceno] “Seriously, I feel poorly for the guys who just took delivery of the 8gb higher priced cards.”
David, there were not that many. And as I pointed out above, they need only to contact their dealer.

February 3, 2006 at 1:23 pmAny word on PAL deliveries, Jan? We are in turmoil here with Panasonic’s long-term Australian distributor Rexel no longer representing Panasonic professional and broadcast products.
Nearly all the staff around the country were terminated two days before Christmas, and there is absolutely NO information process or any trade advertising whatsoever from Panasonic Australia or Panasonic Global as to what the hell is going on down here. I spoke to the MD of Panasonic Australia today and he said call one of the video dealers for more info.
I’ve also spoken to other DVCPRO50 producers who are very nervous about Panasonic’s commitment to the Australian market. It’s an absolute mess and even the poor VAR’s haven’t got a clue what’s going on. VERY frustrating, and strange considering the company is launching a major new product.

February 3, 2006 at 4:04 pmDearest Jan,
Thank you so much for your support. However, I have a long and extensive relationship with Abel who by tradition will go beyond the call of duty to support his clients. I am sure that they will credit me the difference.
BTW- While by tradition my company reelestates.com has been a Sony DV house (15- PD150, pdx 10, etc..), I personally have used and am committed to the Panasonic Products since the DVX, SPX 900 & Varicam. I am in the process of considering the HVX/P2 work flow for all our entry & midrange aquisition…. we are using HC-1s (not Happy) until the HVX is approved.
What is the projection on availability on the 16Gig cards???

I had forgotten where you got and and I do concur, they are wonderful, if I had remembered, I would not have even put the alternate method in my reply. They are Customer First!

Keep us posted, we are looking for application stories. 😉

Realistically it will be in the fall, maybe late fall. As you can see by the price drop some things have just changed on the availability of the 2GB SD card. We need to see steady delivery of 4 GB SD cards to see the light at the end of that tunnel.
Best,
Jan

February 3, 2006 at 11:02 pm[Noah Kadner] “Hallelujah!”
Amen!
I’m turning to be a believer!
I’d feel so much safer if we had someone from Panny Europe like Jan here……Funny how you feel like you’d earned $1600 in a second, when really nothing has happened.
I hope these prices reflect nicely to prices here in Europe also… -

February 5, 2006 at 8:56 amGee, I hope Panasonic can get some of this price protection we’re all screaming about too! Will those people in the white rooms in the space suits that dig the stuff out of the ground, melt it down and make all the innards of P2 be giving Panasonic any kickbacks too? Hope so! Bravo Panasonic for sharing this price reduction.
It’s like was stated above, the bleeding edge costs. I remember paying $45.00 for a dvd-r 5 years ago. I still have some $15.00 ones sealed in the package and I just got some for $0.20 ea. in jewel cases in Dec.
I haven’t bought any so I’m not out of pocket here but from Jans comments it sounds like between your dealers and Panasonic they will try to make it up where they can. Overall, this is good news.

February 5, 2006 at 9:42 pmI have to say that my dealer, Birns and Sawyer in Hollywood has agreed to “protect” me and the one other customer who had just received 8 Gb cards in the week before the price drop! It’s still a matter of hassleing out whether it will be an actual “refund” (which I’d prefer) or “credit”. But it is a matter of $1200 in my case, which puts the whole transaction in a much better light.
Neither they (the dealer) nor I however, can reason Panasonic’s action; surely they knew one month earlier that they would be lowering the price. Furthermore it seems rather moot in that the supply of the 8Gb cards is slim. One thing for sure, we’ll never know what they think!
I’m still a little pieved that you can’t view the HD-SDI signal from the camera, through firewire into the 1200A; what’s the deal? It must be the same phenominon that FCP users report trying to use the 1200A deck connected to an HD_SDI monitor for viewing. I have a Kona card in mine which provides this capability. Perhaps AJA or someone else is listening and will provide an HD_SDI monitoring solution, but I would appreciate some explaination from Panasonic. I did bring it to their attention!
