Any ideas for the best way to network a handful of editing computers?

I’ve got three editing macs here, non of them new, and after sequences have been edited (in Premier with clips dynamically linked to AE) the exporting and encoding takes an age to the point of being problematic.

What would be a good way to manage this?

I’m wondering if it would be good to get another computer (such as the upcoming Mac Pro) to be the fileserver / encoder, hook up the editing macs by ethernet, and export projects on the new server using Adobe Media Encoder (set with a CPU limit). Can it still be an effective file server whilst encoding? Any general thoughts?

Anyone suggest where I might post this question and/or how I might better ask it?

Just looking for some ideas really 🙂
