Network users, multiple machines (Xsan), best practice for templates?
So we have, 8 edit stations, and multiple network users, how do I get the templates shared.
When logging in on another mac or as another user, the templates are not available anymore. This is a NO-GOOD situation.
How do we set them up to follow my project and not my users/machines…. All projectfiles and media are stored on the Xsan.
Any sucess-stories here ? (No it is not a good option to “install” the template on all users and all machines. I need a shared place for it, or inside the project…
Why can’t fcpx read a motiontemplate forlder in every SANlocation ????

FCPX/Motion doesn’t work the way you want yet.
Until Apple changes the model for how effects work, it’s worth investigating Andreas’ free Motion Template Tool. As well as being able to install templates into different user accounts, it can also inspect FCPXML and collect required effects in one place alongside an install script.

Have you tried placing alias of the templates on the server, pointing to the templates placed in the normal location on one machine?

Hi Mark, I would like it to work the other way around. I need to update those templates as well, and doing a alias on a server would not write to the original machine.
Or I would have to share a folder, and have all users/machine to automount this one… Which is a manual job to set up….
Apple , need FCPX to read motiontemplates in a SANlocation and discs. Not just your own userfolder….

Don’t know if this would help, but we are using an app called “FolderWatch” to sync templates between our edit machines and our file server. It takes a moment to setup for each user but works very well and is just $10:
