    Hello,

We use AE CS3 and are looking to be able to do network based rendering. We have 3 render nodes and are looking to use Muster on them to render our AE CS3 projects. Our final outputs now are QT movies with embedded audio and if needed alphas. (99% of all renders are output for use in AVID) Is this possible? Is there something better than Muster? We are open to suggestions. We are also running our CS3 on PC if that is helpful.

    Thanks
    Jen

What is Muster? It’s not an Adobe product and it’s not Nitro. Best to talk to the mfr of this Muster thingy. Most network rendering handlers require that you have full seats for all third party plugins, though. That’s a deal killer.

Network rendering with the AE Render Engine is completely explained in the documentation that comes with AE.

If you drop by the adobe.com site and search for rnedering engine and network rendering you will find lots of posts. You can ignore ay of my comments that show up in any of them.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Thanks for the info I went to Adobe.com and forwarded the info to our IT guys. In the meantime, Muster takes care of the entire rendering pipeline, from the artists workstation to the rendering hosts. Here is the link to Muster https://www.vvertex.com/muster.html
I know Muster works well with Maya but didn’t know if it worked well with AE…

you may have a problem getting a render to a single media file like .mov… render farms are typically used to render image sequences. this is due in large part to only a single system will be able to write the single media file. so you may need to convert the sequence to a .mov after the render farm render…

years ago i was somewhat successful getting a small render farm set up with several of our old systems to used for rendering for cinema4d, i was not too successful with adapting that to after effects (back then i think it was version 5 or 5.5). i did not, however, try using any render manager like muster, it was using ae’s built in multiple render capabilities.
