Howdy, I’ve read somewhere that Vegas will maintain the 5.1 sound placement when nested in another 5.1 veg project. I’m using Vegas 8 and cannot seem to replicate this function. My master project and nested sub-projects are both 5.1 / 48khz / 24bit projects. When I listen to master project, the audio seems to be collapsed as if the nested file was mono audio and comes out of all the speakers the same. I feel like I’m missing something that is dangling right in front of my face, but cannot seem to figure it out. If anyone a possible suggestion, much appreciated!

    thank you, sb

Sorry Stephen but nesting brings in all audio as a stereo track and that’s it, even with a 5.1 project.

Thanx for the response, ugh…although it hurt. Not good if that is the case.

Here is the article that led me to believe that 5.1 nesting was capable. Perhaps there are some particulars I didn’t grasp.

“… Even if you import/nest a 5.1 project, all buses and mixes associated with buses, along with any FX you may have added to the buses or projects, will show up properly in the new project. Just be sure that if you import a 5.1 file to a new veg file, that the new veg file/project is also 5.1, or you’ll be collapsing the surround mix to a stereo mix.”

A follow up question would be, if 5.1 nesting is not maintainable, how Could I maintain all those channels in the master project. There is atleast a few dozen nested projects that I simply cannot forsee unnesting all into a master project. I guess I could export all the channels as separate wav files then place them into their appropriate placement in the main project. Although it becomes quite a pain if I need to make an edit, but I suppose if thats what it takes. Help.
