Nesting
I am having problems with rendering nested projects. I am currently working on a project with 40 minutes of only photos with motion, music & titles. I divided it into two parts to make it more manageable. Once the project was completed I imported the second half of the project as a nested file. When I went to render it took over 5 hours. I did a trial and rendered the two files separately and it took a total of 45 minutes to render both files. Is there something I am missing?
My system:
Dell Studio XPS
CPU Intel Quad Core i7 2.67 Ghz
Memory DDR3 SDRAM – 6GB
Vista 64-bit
Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4850
Hard Drive 7500 RPM
My files are not on the system drive-C, they are on an external hard drive.Thanks,

Did you accidentally move the opacity slider by chance on the timeline containing the nested vegs? This can cause that effect.
Also if you are using 3D track motion on the veg file that contains the nested veg, it may also be the culprit.

I didn’t move the opacity slider & didn’t use any 3D track motion. I have been in contact with Sony & they said nested projects will usually take twice as long to render. So instead of nesting in the future I will take half and click “ctrl +A” to to copy the project and paste it in the other half of the project.

yep, when nesting first came out, there wasn’t a hit on the render. Now, in v8, it definitely increases render time. very annoying.
