I’ve built a 3D table out of high-res flat wood textures.

I want to pre-compose the layers and add them to another composition. Is there a way to do this while maintaining their properties as a 3D object?

Whenever I nest the layers and add the pre-comped object into the final shot with a panning camera, it displays as a solid 2D layer.

    Thanks!

Yep! Click on the collapse transformations box. In 3D it preserves not only resolution, but 3Dimensionality. All cameras and lights will be ignored, and the camera and lights from your current comp will be used. It simply becomes a 3D object. As it should be.
