  • Nested sequences don’t update

I created a complex main title sequence, which then was nested in other sequences, each sequence using the nested one, then having its own specific subtitle.

I figured that if I had to make a change in the main title sequence, then that change would be reflected in all of the sequences that that main title sequence was nested in.

But it’s not happening! I made a change in the main title but all the nested instances of it did not change, even after I removed render files. Double-clicking on the nested sequence where it was nested in the “subtitle” sequence brought up a “phantom” sequence — the old version — which should not even exist! On the timeline there then were two tabs for the main title sequence, one old, one new, with the same name. There’s only ONE such sequence in the Browser!

To me the *whole purpose* of nested sequences is to have various sequences share the same nested one, with changes in the nested one being reflected in all sequences! One change fixes them all. Is there any way to have thing work this way?

I see that his issue has been addressed elsewhere. I’ll try to digest it! I think my setting I/O points caused my problem.

I’ve found this behaviour fairly inconsistent. Marking in and out and editing a sequence into another create a ‘phantom’ nested sequence. It seems like dragging a sequence from a bin to a sequence if it has in/out points seems to do the same.

But trimming and cutting from a nested sequence in another sequence seems to maintain the link to it’s related sequence.

I’ve found that there are some things (not quite identified what) seem to make a sequence that was previously related to the original bin sequence lose it’s relationship and become a ‘phantom’.

I sort of dread nested sequences now, but they are pretty necessary for lots of things.
