    Hi!

We are currently finshing an edit of a feature film shot on the Sony HDV-Z1.

    Our FCP version is 5.0.4.

The way we edited the film was to first edit them as individual Sequences according to Scene.

We had around 77scenes, so that equals to about 77sequences.

We then put these scenes in a master timeline as a nested sequences.

    Now, a funny thing happened.

In the Master Sequence, when you ‘play’ the movie – everything is fine.

Things start to get funky when you output a FC Refernce Movie File of the Master Sequence.

When we exported the FC Referencfe Movie File the audio was drifting out of sync which became quite apparent near the end of the movie. The Audio was about 12 frames over the Video (or so we thought)

After a lot of investigation and sleepless nights (especially with the deadline looming) We found that there were about 2 or 3 nested scenes (let’s say scene 8, scene 24 and scene 75) whose video, when exported as an FC Refernce Movie File from the Master Sequence, lack 2 or more frames that when added all together summed up to the 12 missing frames – (so it was actually the Video that was under, whilst the Audio had the correct lenght).

What was even more weird was that when we exported from the sequence itself (let’s say Scene 24) and not from the master sequence, everything was ok – all frames were accounted for.

So our solution was to cut and paste the edit from the Scene and into the Master Sequence. So now the Master Sequence is made up of Nested Scenes and Edited clips that make up a scene.

Seems to be working so far.

Has anyone had this problem before? Any Idea on what could be causing it?

Nests in Final Cut can be problematic. I would copy and paste the scenes in their entirety (no nesting) into the master timeline.
