Sorry, total newbie question. What does “nest the sequence” mean? Does that mean have the whole sequence rendered with in and out points set? Should the sequence be selected at this point?

    Thanks,
    Alexander

When you look in the manual index under NESTING, it should point you to pages and pages of information.

What nesting does is take you 3 layers of video, 8 layers of audio, 500 cut sequence and makes in into one large clip. Basically.

You use it to apply a filter, effect, move to a bunch of clips at one time. But, keep in mind that if you nest a bunch (or is it a gaggle) of clips, then apply a dissolve to the front of that nest, you won’t have that extra footage at the front like you would if it was just a shot. You can adjust that by opening the nest as its own time line (Double click) then extending the front (or back) to have more footage.
