Hi, i’ve been using vegas to edit dv. Soon I’ll edit HDV either with a Canon XH-A1 or a Sony V1

DO I need Neo HDV or Neo HD? I understand that HDV is 8-bit anyway, so why have Neo HD?
Somebody mentioned, on a forum out there, that even though HDV is 8-bit, if I do a lot of color correction I might benefit from Neo HD which is 10 bit. I fail to understand how I could “fabricate” the missing information to edit stuff generated under 8-bit in a 10-bit environment?

Do I really need the 10bit capability of Neo-HD with my HDV cam or it’s overkill?
I’m also aware that Vegas comes with Cineform codec but supposedly they’re not enough? Is that true? If so, why did Vegas did provide a limited codec?
    Thanks for all your answer
    Phil

There are some advantages to 10bit. I’d run Neo were you looking to do color push or compositing.
The CineForm codecs that come with Vegas are great, but they’re nowhere near as beneficial as the Neo product.
