My church has finally decided to let me purchase some high def camera’s but I don’t know what to look for. You guys have helped me with Vegas so I figured I would start here.

I am looking in the range between $1500 to $3500. I need it to be able to shoot in dark surroundings. I need it to be able to use a LANC controller. And if there is a way of doing this inexpensive, a wide angle shot on at least one of the cameras.

I need to have definition on their faces when I pull back.

    Any suggestions would be great.

    Blessings!

    Richard,

I just got 3 Sony HXR-NX5U Cameras. I am really pleased. They are a little above your stated range.
But I would say worth it. We looked at a lot of cameras!

I agree with Jeff. Make sure you get the 128 GB memory card, although the LANC controller may be iffy to find. I use Libec ZC-3DV. Cheap but effective.

Jeff, did you have to do anything in the camera setup to get the blacks black? When compared to my Z1P, the blacks are a bit brown and washed out, and I always have to do a bit of tweaking with colour curves and brightness and contrast to get them to match.

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

    Nigel,

I’m using the 32 GB SDHC cards. They work great! Cheap too. 174 minutes each at best res/bitrate.
I do think the cameras are a bit noisy and I run light noise reduction on almost everything. I also touch up the blacks in post.
