Need video soon-Vegas 11 Pro not rendering footage with lots of masking and cropping properly
I’m editing a video which I didn’t shoot and had to do a lot of masking and cropping on several video tracks. That worked fine and I was able to render out a video earlier.
However, a jpeg image that the client sent me to put on the video over the footage I masked and cropped is causing the renders to be ruined at the section where the image is, and I have no idea why. It’s just a little text, like a logo, and I cut a mask around it and feathered the edge, as well as used the pan crop function to move it to the corner of the screen. Now, it’s like each layer of masking and cropping that I did are showing up as individual elements, a different one in each frame, like a bizarre slide show. Then, if I try to preview the video, everything’s black after that on the timeline, and I have to close and restart Vegas to get it playing again.
I may just do some work around (I might request a different file format for the picture), but still. What’s going on, and is there a way around this? I finally am starting to use Vegas 11 Pro for more projects because the latest update has fixed the constant crashes and lock ups for NewBlue plugins and titler.

I would bring the jpeg into Photoshop, get rid of what I didn’t need and save it as a PNG (to keep the alpha channel).
Bring that into Vegas and use Pan/Crop to position and resize as needed. -
I don’t have Photoshop. Any alternatives? Well, I can ask the person who sent them to me, but I don’t think she can get them to me before tomorrow, and I need to have this done quickly.

Also, the picture when I merely resize it in Vegas doesn’t cause any of this glitching in the rendered video. It seems to only be when I cut a mask around it and put it in the corner of the screen that it clashes with the other layers of video.

GIMP is free (open source) and is very similar to Photoshop.

If you don’t want to spend the time learning it tonight, post the image on a file sharing site like Dropbox and I’ll be glad to adjust it for you. -
Can you take the jpg:
1. put it into Vegas 10, same project properties as the Vegas 11 project
2. add the p/c and masking
3. render as .mov (animation) …
4. put that clip back into your Vegas 11 project?Tis a workaround, but it might suffice …

Well, it DID work, until I added the zoom transition to the beginning. Now I’m having blacked out footage in my render and in Vegas after I try it.
I may try re-rendering it, but the problem with that is I’ll have to make a mask again, which wasn’t perfect in the first place (I feathered it, it’s a blue oval with some text), further messing up the edges.
Edit: I just tried rendering the png itself with masking, resizing/repositioning, and a zoom transition in the beginning of it. It’s just black in the render. So it seems the transition is the problem?

WTF?! It’s just the zoom transition-I just tried the iris transition to make sort of a wipe, and it rendered fine.
