Anyone know where I can find, or how to easily create, a nice vector outline image of the 50 USA states? I need to make an outlined, with alpha background, USA map. I also need to be able to tilt it on the Z axis and build a 3D filler into certain states that give a block kind of look. Tracing it in Illustrator just sounds like a nightmare. Is there a way to do it in photoshop using a pixel image? Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Eric

Shutterstock.com, my very favorite stock photo site, has tons of vector maps to choose from.

Okay, a professional version would be nicer, but good B&W version (like from a coloring book), can easily be converted to workable paths in Photoshop, which is what I would recommend for free (okay, free if you have access to Photoshop. I have seen free 3-d maps on places like 3D cafe, and Illustrator and others will open a .dxf file. And… have you *really* searched the web yet?

I searched around but didn’t find anything I was looking for. I figured out how to do this by using Live Trace in Illustrator CS2. Got the tracing effect I was looking for, then extruded it into the 3D effect I for the final. Perfect.

Now an additional question. Is it possible to animate the 3D I’ve created in Illustrator in AE, or will AE turn it into 2D?

    Thanks,
    Eric
