While we do ongoing raw footage backup and have a 180+TB NAS, we are in need of a cloud backup.

Any recommendations? It would be deeply appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hey Bob,

Do you need a mirror in the cloud for the “180+TB NAS”, or just to be able to lay off footage to be used remotely?

It comes down to how much you want to spend, and how much you can manage the IT infrastructure in-house. Or if you need external help.

    You could go AWS (Amazon).
Or Dropbox, which used to run on AWS (don’t know what they use today).

Of the services that I use, I am currently leaning towards Google being the most flexible. They have a monthly plan that can take you to 30TB @ £119.99/month. I would expect them to go higher if needed.

The other one, where I am involved, is NOVA. They have a storage solution with “Video Analyzer”. Where it uses A.I. to analyze your footage – on bigger productions, identifying all of the elements, actors, spoken word etc, might cost money initially, but be a live-saver later.
To save money, you can switch off the analyzing. They’ve just relaunched their website to make it faster. If you contact them, ask for Michael (CEO) and send him my best regards.

A friend of mine is very impressed with https://iogates.com/home/ which is dedicated high-end secure storage for TV and Film productions. Ask for Jesper (Founder and CEO) and tell him that Søren from London was singing his praises earlier to me.
    😀

I’m sure that there are plenty of other choices out there. But above are 5 very diverse offerings. Do listen out for some of the excellent specialist storage experts on the COW.

    Frame.io

Avid has a new cloud service developed with Microsoft.

If it’s just raw footage, you really can use anything these days.
