February 13, 2008 at 5:45 pmI am having the same issue. Editing in FCP 6.0.2 in 1080p24 DVCPROHD. Exporting self-contained quicktime movie. Importing into Compressor and making mpeg2 using best quality DVD preset, with frame controls on to increase scaling quality to best… otherwise default settings. If I open both the source and resulting mpeg2 in Quicktime, the mpeg2 is darkened considerably.
Here is a screen grab… https://drjoemassad.com/download/gamma_shift.png

April 11, 2008 at 7:24 pmI have the exact problem. My footage showed the exact darkening of the footage as showing in Lary Sang’s link. I’m using Avid but when I export, I export as Quicktime Reference and that’s where my problem is, Quicktime. Quicktime seems to be the source of the problem but so far I have no found a solution to this problem. I have posted in Quicktime Discussion page and no one seems to have an answer to this problem. This is frustrating that this is a huge problem and no one seems to know what the answer is. Perhaps it’s not widely spread. I would appreciate any help in solving this gamma shift problem with Quicktime.
