Sorry if this has been answered but I couldn’t find a clear answer in my search on this topic.

I’m capturing HDV footage, digitizing with HDVsplit and dropping the resulting M2T file on the PP CS3 time line. Once the edit is complete what is the best format to export it out. I’ll want to use the files in later projects and need to keep the loss to a minimum.

If I’m understanding past comments correctly, exporting it back out as another MPEG2 file will re-compress the already compressed M2T files.

Can someone let me know the best settings for a “lossless” export of my edited footage for use in future projects?

    Thanks!

    Hey Rex,

I always export my HD as an MPEG2 with the preset of HDTV1080-30p. I shoot at 30fps so you’ll need to select the same preset that matches your frame rate.

Don’t worry about the extra compression, mine come out beautiful with this setting (sample link below), not only that but if you were to export a full HD file uncompressed it would be so large you probably couldn’t it play properly unless it was just 15 or 30 seconds.

Some people may have a Quicktime setting that they like but I personally can never find one I like.

Go to the following link and browse through some of my HD videos, all of the HD vids were used with the above settings.

    Hope this helps;)

Might want to have a look at Mainconcept Pro HD 4, does smart rendering.
