A week or so ago I had problems with a sequence and it was suggested that I trash my preferences. I didn’t trash them then. I had another problem today as follows. I created a MOV file in Moving Pictures on a PC as I have done for 2+ years and then copied the file to my Mac through a network. I then brought the mov file into my project. I double clicked it and it opened in the Viewer and then I dropped the file on the timeline. As I played the timeline I found a portion of the mov file missing. It just faded to black and about 24 seconds later it faded up and continued. I checked the Viewer and it played perfectly. I checked the little player in Finder and it played ok. I double clicked the file and opened it in my QT Player 6.5.2 and it played perfectly.

I then closed down FCP and trashed my prefs as in the Ken Stone Index and then reopened FCP and then emptied the trash. I reopened the project file and reimported the mov file into my project. I moved the file to the Viewer and then dropped it on the timeline. This time it still fades to black on the timeline and now it does it in the Viewer. All of my other mov files I brought into the project from Moving Pictures are ok. Just this one file is going crazy.

Initially I moved the file from the PC to my Mac with the PC and now I am moving it with my Mac to see if it causes a difference.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks

I think I figured it out. I don’t know why but I had three tiff pictures mixed in with the psd pictures. I don’t know why it makes a difference when the mov file is rendered in Moving Pictures but it did make a difference in mine. I recreated the mov file and I am now copying it back into my Mac. I will know in the morning.

Just FYI, I’m holding off on the Tiger upgrade until FCP 5 is released. Since FCP 4.5 is running very well on 10.3.8 on both of my systems, I’m not going to “fix anything that’s not broke.” FCP 5 is pretty much optimized for Tiger, FCP 4 was optimized for Panther so I’ll just hold off on everything until then. Also, this gives time for third party manufacturers like Medea to really test Tiger before I make the switch with FCP 5.
