  • Need referral for virtual set green screen studio

I have a client who wants a walking, talking narrator in a huge virtual set. I recall there was a place out east, I think FL, where you could choose from thirty male or female narrators and they did large jib and dolly moves with the narrator. This is something that I do not want to attempt and only want a place that specializes in this. But I forgot their name and my searching produces nothing.

So, if you know of them or a company just like them, one that specializes in the the movement of a narrator within a moving background virtual set please let me know. This is highly technical so please don’t refer regular green screen studios, I have plenty of those here in Chicago.

    Many thanks,

    Ned

I’m not sure you really need a specialized service to get that kind of move. Anybody with a Video Toaster or Tricaster for example can do that, with their canned DVE/key moves. You don’t necessarily need to shoot the entire actual volume, just the bit around the actor, and they do a subtle body turn on camera as the effects system does the virtual scaling and even jib moves on the keyed section. Don’t take my word for it, I think the Newtek site has demos of it. I think anybody with AfterEffects or even Zaxwerks could do the same thing; Newtek’s unique take on it is just that they have automated it.

Thanks Mark. I’m looking to send them to a turnkey place that does this a lot. I personally don’t have the post skills to do what you described.

I read an article last year about, Occidental Studios in Hollywood being retrofitted in 2011 with an emphasis on the kind of motion capture you mention. There are probably lots of others as well – all with typical Hollywood prices.

    Good luck.

Sounds like what https://www.southeasternstudios.com in Vero Beach,FL was doing – I think they may have shuttered the Vero Beach location and reopened in LA as https://lacastlestudios.com/
