  • Need project name in browser column

I am setting up a stock library system and am exporting batch lists of stock projects into an excel database. It works remarkably well.

the only thing that would really make this streamlined is if I could include a column with the Project name in it. isn’t there a way to make a custom column or automate the info into the bin/browser? show source reveals too much info that has to be edited in excel later.

    much thanks.

What about putting it in the ‘description’ column?

And once you’ve entered it once, just highlight all the clips and right click one, and choose the project name from there and they’ll all change.

    [Colleen Kessler] “excel database”

Just a quick note excel is not a data base program, it is a spreadsheet program. Data base programs are like Microsoft Access, and FileMaker Pro.

Sorry my dad is just a data base nut and he has pounded this into me.

Very true, but you can use excel as a ‘backend’ of sorts for FCP projects. I suppose you could use FMP as one as well, but it takes a lot more doing than Excel.

    Viola!!!

That worked PERFECTLY! Thank you so much!
and with regard to “database”; sadly I was using that word loosely, I completely agree it is to be a spreadsheet and not a database per se, than you for all your help and insight!
