    Hi all,
I am sooo sick of having unlimited amounts of ram memory available to me, and only having 3.5 gig limited to windows xp 32.

    I’m using xp sp3, 3.5 gigs, 6700 quad core, gtx 8800
My system starts up with 345 ram used. (nice and low) but when I open my hd 1 hour movie, it goes up to 2.5 gigs.
After 10 minutes of editing and Dydnamic linking, it maxs out at 3.7 gigs and then boggs down.

I am so sick of limited ram.
Can someone please tell me what operating system can allow me to use 8 gigs of ram for Premiere cs4? Think of it, ram is cheap (50 bucks per 2 gig) and we can only use 3-4 gigs? i am working on editing a an hd movie, and when I open CS4 premiere file, my memory is already using 2.5 gigs.
i am ready to build any pc. What OS allows 6,8,or more….ram for CS4 programs? I understand that 64 bit allows 4 gigs? big deal. Why can’t we use 10 gig????

    Thanks,
    Lou

CS4 is not a 64bit application as only Photoshop is, so Vista 64 will not help you much. But using dynamic link then Vista 64 will be your best way out.You can run Photoshop, After fx, PPro and AME at the same time. Each application will take it’s share of the RAM. With Vista 64 you can use up to 128gb but at the moment limited to 16 using 4x4gb ram (The highest single pice of RAM is 4gb). However, CS4 uses peformance rather than RAM to work good, so consider a Big CPU say 9650 or Core i7 or the Xeon family should you decide to go the extreme.
