April 6, 2005 at 9:05 pmI’ve not heard of a mixer that outputs via firewire nor USB… but you could take any mixer and send it’s analog outputs to a digitizer like an ADVC-100 and turn the analog to 48 kHz… then send this signal down the firewire…

With NAB only two weeks away, I’d certainly wait to see what products get announced by Apple and also audio equipment companies. Right now Mackie has the only Firewire mixer I know of, but that doesn’t mean someone else won’t introduce one in a few weeks.

April 7, 2005 at 6:59 pmWhile not perfect because it only has two dedicated stereo inputs, the USB in/out is shared with the tape in/outs, it has little routing capability and it looks disturbingly like a Behringer, the Alesis Multimix 8USB is on sale at Guitar Center this week for $150. If all you need is a cheap way to get a few audio sources including phantom powered mics into FCP via USB and do some basic monitoring, than this might do the trick. Check the owner’s manual for more details.
