June 14, 2015 at 3:41 amNo idea what your system specs are, but I would look at an R9 270x, with 290x being where you want to be. If you have 1st or 2nd gen i7, upgrading to a 4th or 5th gen i7 will give you better overall performance vs upgrading GPU.
Make sure to uninstall the NVidia software before removing card, and get back to windows display driver. Then install the AMD card and drivers.
Search other posts, as the GPU topic has been beat to death.

+1
What Aaron said. Make sure your CPU can take advantage of a better GPU. A computer system must be balanced. I bought a Quadro 4000 and put it in a system with a 1st gen Core 2 Quad and it didn’t perform so well. When I upgraded to a Core i7 Quad the Quadro 4000 performed much better because the older CPU just couldn’t feed the GPU fast enough. So make sure you balance your CPU and GPU for optimized performance.
