August 25, 2011 at 8:18 pmYou’re after Command+[ to go back or command + ] to go forward through you timelines I think.
Cheers,
Brendan

August 25, 2011 at 9:02 pmDo you mean you wish to step in and out of “compound clips” that you have created?
Is that what you mean by “timeline history”?
Cheers,

August 25, 2011 at 9:37 pmTimeline history forward and back are relative to the clips you have “open in timeline” (sic). This history is cleared each time you quit FCPX. So after you open in timeline you can use timeline history back to get you back to the main timeline. Timeline history forward will take you to that same clip’s timeline no matter where you have the playhead parked or what clip is selected.
