Here is my problem, any help would be great.

New MAC with Quad processors and 8GB Ram
    Final Cut Studio Pro 2
    HD Extreme Card
    Pro Tools W/Digi 003 Rack

When FCP is NOT the active program all the audio sounds like distorted digital stream even if the audio card is set to decklink, the external video on my HD monitor flashes like a strobe, as soon as I click into FCP the audio normalizes (Even if playing iTunes) and the monitor goes black or whatever I have in the viewer. I am also having trouble playing back video on the external monitor, it will only play every 30 frames here and there. Any ideas?

I have installed the drivers for everything and setup as it says but is there something I am missing?

I have the very same problem. In fact, I have two individual self-powered XLR speakers (M-Audio BX5a) connected to the audio out and the sound is beautiful from FCP but not without FCP. The sound goes really distorted and broken and delayed. What am I missing also?

    Hi guys,

    Sorry for not responding earlier.

Could you check OS X System Preferences > Display, then click on the gather windows button and make sure the “Television” resolution is set to match the format you usually work on in Final Cut Pro. See if that makes a difference. This should not be happening though so let me know if that helps and we’ll look into it.

    regards

The display is set to 1920 x 1080 30hz, there is no option for 59.94 or 60. when we are not in FCP is when the strobe is happening. when in fcp I have the output set to 1920 x 1080 I have an NEC 42″ plasma as my output display, I have installed an additional app to correct the audio so that I can use the digi003 as my audio device instead of the decklink card when using any other program aside from FCP.

let me know if this helps

I had this problem at first with the same card, but fidgeting around with the settings in OSX>Sys>Audio and different settings in FCP + a couple of restarts, suddenly rendered not-digitally distorted audio in the whole system. I have no idea what I did, but it hasn’t returned to the screaming state again.

…unfortunately only to uncover a different problem… When not working in FCP, system audio is now clipping when reaching approx 90% of headroom (as in most music these days).

Lowering internal volumefaders (iTunes, QTplayer etc) by approx 10% corrects problem, but as there is no masterfader, this is a real repetitive pain. It seems to be a BlackMagic driver problem.
