Need help with my computers Specs
OK. So I’ve read and understood that AVID is unstable if you go outside of the specs for a machine.
My problem is that I already have a machine that I bought only a month ago and I would like to run AVID on it.
I’ve installed 5.2.1 and it won’t start – I get a windows messsage saying it’s looking for something like a procedure entry point in the digitallio.dll.(HAve seen the After Effects fix on AVID site – its not this i don’t have AE and to be sure I also uninstalled all Adobe products to test.)
AVID give me the quick and easy – “not an AVID machine blah blah blah” response without any real attempt to help. (Boy am I suprised by how common a theme that is across the net!)My machine is an Athlon 64 4000

ATI RAdeon X1800From what I’ve read I’m hoping that I MIGHT be able to get away with a video card change to an NVIDIA. Anyone have any experience with a system similar to mine? Suggestions? (I’m an individual, not a company. A young film maker who doesn’t want to go down the FCP path so go gentle. I can’t afford a new machine and have my toes and fingers crossed that someone can help.)

You’re kind of out of luck, since you didn’t follow Avid’s specs. That being said, your processor could likely be the culprit (Avid doesn’t like AMD, only Intel–though that doesn’t mean Avid won’t run on an AMD chip).
Grab a Nvidia Graphics card, as many users are experiencing varying degrees of issues in systems with ATI graphics cards. Any of the GeForce-series cards out there (within reason) should be more than sufficient. I suggest something in the upper 6000-series (6600, 6800, etc.).
You might try wiping and reinstalling Windows XP PROFESSIONAL (Avid XPro won’t run properly on WinXP Home) with SP2. Avid doesn’t like Premiere (or at least, it didn’t in the past, things may have changed with the newer Premiere Pro releases).
It could also be driver conflicts, too.

You might try searching on Ebay for great deals on a new/used certified computer to run Avid on.

I just copied all my MEDIA/OMFI files from a small LaCie to a monster LaCie drive. I booted up the AVID program and opened my project, made sure the new larger LACie was firewired to the G4 and saw “MEDIA OFFLINE” on the timeline/sequence.
What else must I do to “reconnect” the Media/OMFI files to the project?
