Need Help with Multi-Cam Editing.
Posted by Will Standley on May 30, 2007 at 12:23 amI haven’t used Vegas in a long time.
Now we have a 3 cam shoot.
We have captured the video and opened each avi file in Vegas.
We moved the 3 Video/Audio tracks until the Clap Board audio spike lined up.
1 – Is this the way to ‘sync’ the 3 cams?
But of course only the video on the top shows.
2 – Must we use the Opacity control to cut to the other cams on the lower tracks and still keep the audio & video sync’d?
This is a music video so we want to make sure we keep everything sync’d up properly.
Thanks for any help with this project.

May 30, 2007 at 12:34 amIf I were you I would do it the easy way and purchase
a copy of Excalibur. It has a MultiCam Tool that creates
a preview of all of your cameras in the preview window, and
allows you to switch your cameras like having a video switcher.
Also has a ton of others tools that supercharge Vegas.https://www.classondemand.net/classondemand/vegas-training/excalibur.aspx

May 30, 2007 at 12:19 pmRick,
I actually own Excalibur v1.5 but have never installed it.
(I’m still using Vegas 5.0.)
Do I need a later version of Excalibur? Will it work with my Vegas 5?
I hope to update Vegas later this year but not now.
FYI, I bought Vegas 4.0, upgraded to 5.0 when it came out and did a couple of projects. I’m just now getting back to doing some video.
Thanks for the help.

May 30, 2007 at 1:36 pmMoving from Vegas 4 to Vegas 5 changed some pieces of the scripting. Version 2.0 was the first version set to work in Vegas 5. Version 5.0 will still work in version 5 (there’s a separate download for Vegas 5 versus Vegas 6 or 7). I would strongly recommend upgrading to the latest version. You can find full details at http://www.jetdv.com/excalibur
If you were using Vegas 6.0b or newer (i.e. Vegas 7), you could now also do “Live Switching” which simply means you would not have to stop the timeline playback in order to add the camera switches. With Vegas 5, you play to the new camera switch location, pause the playback, add the camera angle, and then restart playback.
Here’s a list of changes since version 1.5:
