I’m using a canon hf200 to record avchd .mts files which I can easily import from my sd card port to my booklet, to Vegas without a prob. Now, I am working with a couple people who have vista o/s which runs media player 11, which doesn’t support .mts as win7/mp 12 does. very hard to find mp12 for vista so far, so I thought I could just compress the .mts files and e-mail to them. can send the usual small attachments-like 5 sec-which they can get into vegas no prob. The specific question I have is: what is the best way to get the large .mts files to them seeing as they can’t be read directly by their vista/mp11 system, but can be picked up from email. when I compress with 7-zip, it barely makes a difference. Am I seeing this issue correctly? TIA

You will not get .mts files smaller than they already are. They are highly compressed which is why 7-zip didn’t make a difference. If they need these files in high quality for editing, then you need to ship them on a USB hard drive or thumb drive. Otherwise you can recompress them to a lower quality/bit-rate to get the file size down but they will never be small enough to email. There are also file sharing sites that you might try. I’m sure someone here will know of some (I don’t use them so I don’t know).

I don’t know if a file sharing site is what you need, but one that I have used successfully is “USendIt”.
