I have a question for all you AE pros. I’m working on a commercial for my boss. Basically in the commercial, the character is sitting, and his conscience (a mini version of himself) appears on his arm. After a bit of dialogue, the character plucks the conscience off his arm. The trouble I’m having is that when we taped the guy plucking the air, his arm moves over the space where the conscience would be. So after editing the conscience out and layering it on top of the character, his arm moves BEHIND the conscience when he plucks it. What I need is for the character’s arm to be on TOP of the conscience when he plucks him. It may be a bit hard to understand, and I’d be more than happy to clarify if someone can help me. I tried turning the plucking arm into a 3D layer, but that didn’t work out too well. So if someone has some other tips and tricks I can try, please PLEASE help me out! Thanks a lot!

You need to duplicate your original layer of the guy plucking and then create a mask of the finger plucking the guy and animate it accordingly.

… and place that duped hand layer on top of the little guy layer.
