I have to make a spot for a band that’s performing locally. The DVD they gave me to use as footage is badly interlaced. I wasn’t sure if there was a way to fix this without buying a plug-in (I can’t afford one). If not, any suggestions for sylization that might distract from the fact that it is interlaced? Thanks.

I have looked through both the TV set and the computer. (In fact, I brought the footage in from a stand-alone player using the composite signal). It’s definitely on the source DVD. I tried using lower field first in AE…didn’t do a thing to fix it.

It looks like I’m just going to have to figure out a way to stylize it, then. Neither field interpolation is working, and I don’t really have too much time to work with it. Thanks for your help, though.

To paraphrase Dave, if the interlacing is irregular (thick/thin), then the footage was scaled in its interlaced form. If that’s the case, there’s no way of cleaning up the footage. You need the footage as it was before it was scaled, or you’re hosed.
