I poste dthis is beg AE forum but no one has replied and I need to figure this out asap, anyone know what is wrong???

I found a great tutorial on the Cow that I thought could help me with a problem I have. I am pretty new to AE and I am still trying to figure out the interface. I am having difficulty understanding the 3d interfacing.

I am doing this tutorial: https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_page_wrapper.cgi?forumid=1&page=https://www.creativecow.net/articles/fischer_john/video_wall/index.html

I cannot seem to see the 3d correcty. I have played eith the camera views on the comp window, but I am not sure if that is what I need to do. I followed the tutorial step by step 3 times and the only way I can see any of the 3d grids is if I change the comp windo to say “Custom view 3” but this messes me up later in the tutrial when I have built my final comp and added a camera, now I am seeing everything flat again and I do not see the camera move I added. I got to Page 7 and I am just stuck.
earlier this week I broght in a simple graphic from photoshop, a picture of a book. I wanted it to have some 3d depth to it so I made it a 3d layer and played with the x,y & z rotations. I looked at it in custom view 1 on the screen, and it looked great. But every time I exported it would just animate flat in 2d space, same thing is happening to me in this tutorial. I Think I am missing a basic concept to how the 3d spce works in AE. Could someone please help me understand how to use it correctly? I understand how the camer works in theroy and how to use the 3d button in the timeline, but I don’t understand how to view it correctly and export it.
any help would be super great!

    thanks!

oh I am using AE 7 on a mac

Where are you stuck? In the comp “Video _Wall_FINAL”? If so, did you click on the Collapse Transformation/Continuously Rasterize button (it looks like a little sun, next to the shy guy)? You need this to make you 3D work in the comp its in.

And you did click on the 3D cubes in the comps where you need 3D?

If you’re still stuck you might download the aep project files, and compare them to yours and you should see where they’re different.

I dunno if you know, but you can use multiple views, Window>Workspace>Two Comp Views or View>New View, then set the new view to Custom View 1 or 3, or top or side, as needed. Also maybe everything is OK and your camera is just looking straight on, 3D layers when perfectly sideways are invisible as they have no depth, select the camera layer, then hit “C” and you get different Camera Orbit Tools, fool with them and you should see the 3D. Ctrl Z (multiple times if needed)always takes you back to where you were.

    Goodluck.
