    Hi all,
I’ve got a clip with a person walking through a shop. The clip is time remapped so they speed along the isle, slow down to look at a product, and speed up again to get to the next product. I’ve done that and pre-composed it.

So, I want to add the echo effect so there is a sort of trail during the fast bit, and hopefully to smooth out the walk of the talent. I’ve had a bit of a play with echo but whenever I get the trail looking OK, the rest of the shop is really blown out.

Can anyone offer some advice on getting this effect? I’ve had a look through the archives and found recommendations for Boris Continuim (or something like that) but unfortunately I dont have this plug.

    Cheers

You’re sort of out of luck there. Unlike its equivalents in other plugin suites, AE’s own echo is “dumb”. It will always oversample the entire frame, not look for differences between frames. Basically you need to isolate your talents in some way, which most likely would be done with some rough animated masks in your case. If you have AE 6.5 and the CC filters you could also try CC Wide Time. It works like Echo but may yield more acceptable results.

I think there is a difference key that might help you out a little bit if the shot is locked off? The difference key looks at pixels that are different from another layer so if you used the same layer (or duped it and used that) then tweaked a bit it might give you some help in extracting elements of the shopper from the bg.
failing that – good old masking manually 🙂

dunno – just thinking on my feet again here :/

thanks, I have tried the difference matte but there are too many similar colours.

Oh well, looks like I will mask him out.

    Cheers
