    Hi Guys,

I have had the same problem twice this week which has got me totally stumped.
I have a 12 minute short which i am exporting from FCP using DV – PAL Compression within the QT movie format export.

I then burn the QT file onto a Blank good quality DVD. File is 3.7 GB in size, leaving just enough room on the DVD.
The file is then taken from us to a audio suite, where they have tried to extract the QT file from the disk to there desk top but it just throws the disk out with I think a -36 or 39 error and cannot be read or dragged onto desktop

I am using a imac G5, they are on G4’s as well as PC’s. As anyone seen this before…….it has happened twice now this week to me.

Bizarre thing is I have taken the disc to my PC and another Quad G5 and it extracts from the DVD and plays back fine.

    I am stumped……

[visualfusion] “I then burn the QT file onto a Blank good quality DVD.”

You left out one very important peice of information. What app are you using to burn the file to your DVD? Of course that info is critical for anyone trying to help you.

What machine do they have in the audio suite? I’ve seen older DVD drives that won’t read burned discs.

What are they using to sweeten the audio with?
Why not export an OMF file??
Try some other burned discs to see
if the player spits those out??

What DVD media are you using. G4s are unlikely to be able to read DVD +R disks as they have older drives. G5s can read and burn both DVD -R and DVD +R. Get a -R disk and try that. Also make sure the disk is closed session.

I have about 5 different DVD drives in my studios and from time to time one drive just won’t read a disk that other machines have no trouble with. This can be due to variations in media. Always use good qual media, even though it costs a few cents more. Your data and time are more important.
