  • Need help to create Spotlight with smoky ray effect

Posted by Israel Tamang on May 5, 2010 at 1:42 am

    Hi there,
I am using AE CS4 for a music video (editing finished in FCP) and am wanting to create a limegreen spotlight with a visible ray effect shining straight on the subjects.
Possibly a smoke or haze volumetric effect around the artists.
I looked into handful tutorials and tips online but couldn’t find the one that would help with.

I used light layer, and also with adjustment layer with spotlight effect with fractual noise etc…
Tried to make the ray with cone shaped mask and all that.
But I just couldn’t get the right effect without affecting all the layers below or the right steps and in order.

Any links, tips or suggections would be greatly appreciated.
If you have created like this before, it would be a great help.
    Thanks.

As Roland suggested before, the Trapcode plug might be what you want.

Another alternative would be to use the beam effect with an adequate blending mode.

    Salut.

Thanks for the info. I will look into it.
Pretty much the big guns are all always in the plugins.
Trapcode sounds like the only solution to pull the trick.
    Cheers,
    Izzy

In case you do not have the plugin, here’s a script (at the bottom of the tutorial) that will do pretty much the same:

I got the demo version and would be of great favor if its ok to ask anyone if they could spare a key for me. If not, I understand.
    Thanks for the help.

I don’t think that this forum is the place to ask for that…
Look at the link I posted earlier- you can get the same effect without any additional plugins, straight AE, and the script makes it really easy.

Lime green tint would be it. I will check all options available on the table.
    Thanks
