  • Need Help Panning audio from left to right

Posted by Mediarevolutionary on October 8, 2006 at 2:31 am

I am seeking info on how to pan. When I dbl click the audio clip and move pan slider in viewer, I don’t hear any difference in the sound. Both channels’ pan line (purple) move opposite eachother.

I am trying to get a sterophonic fade in fade out effect of two voices coming from different sides. What am I missing?

    Thank you.

    it;s a stereo clip.
so panning will move both channels to the centre, or swap left & right.

you have to un-stereo the clip first.

in the timeline, select it, and option L.

read more on audio in the manual.

sounds like you have your clip’s audio set as a stereo pair, in this case select the clip in the timeline and press Option L (Modify > Stero Pair), now you’ll have access to each track separately

Just in case the FCP panning doesn’t work…

It could also be your monitoring source. If you are going through a mixer make sure you physically pan each channel in it’s appropriate direction. If your channels are both panned to the center it does not matter what you do in FCP.

Thank you. This forum is an amazing tool. I unpaired the channels and got the desired result. Still not entirely sure the exact logistics of stereo, but for now I am able to create the effect.

    Thank you.
