    Hi,

Its been two days (and nights) and now i have totally given up…i am tired and frustrated.
I have to track a Road sign and replace it with another one (with new text/sign). I have understood eacha nd every panel/button and concept an dtheory of tracking in after effects. Everything i mean..subpixel tracking, continue tracking, extrapolate option, adapt feature option and all that. have gone thru the entire HELP of after effects for Tracking section. The problem is that the Road sign is “entering frame” and then “exiting”
so the TRACK POINT (Attach point + feature centre + confidence) should move out of the comp to continue tracking. for that i pre-comp my source footage. extended it it height both from top and bottom ( its a tilt)
now it shud work fine. i also chose EXTRAPOLATE MOTION option in the option box. But now, the problem is that
the moment the track point reaches the end of the source file…the feature centre continues to move over the BLACK (extended Comp) part…and tracks fine….but the ATTACH POINT doesnt move and the CONFIDENCE tab shows no further KEYFRAMES????
i hope i making sense guys…..its very difficult for me..i have tried my best…two days back i knew nothing about TRACKING..in last two days i searched for lot of tutes and resources on the net, worked real hard to crack this task but now i am feeling disappointed and frustrated after having tried all the options and over 100 attempts…now i am tired and look for help from PROS! pls help me out. i have done my bit…and i cant move further.

    regards,
    Kamal

you track until the track has problems then just put in a few keyframes by hand. It’s not that hard, it is just no automatic

thanks man! thats what i did exactly. but tell me something ….. is it a BUG in AE 7.0?
because technically it should work…as i saw some tutes from the web and in those the CROSS HAIR( attach point i mean) moves in to the extended Pre-comp(the black portion) easily????
whats going wrong? i wud really appreciate if i understand this…as i am going mad about it…i have to find a work about and thats what i did…manually..but isnt TRACKING an automated process??

pls throw some light on this buddy

    regards,

Not really understanding your precomp method. I usually find something to track before the subject enters the screen and then move to track the subject once it can be locked onto good. And then vice versa on leaving. There is cleanup and depending upon the contrast (nice trackpoints have contrast so it is easy for the software to maintain a point of ref) of your subject – it can get kinda messy. But I usually still modify most my tracks – sometimes the motion is a little jagged – so it is an automated help if you will. But AE does pretty good for most my stuff – go to bigger packages for real 3D tracks – but your sign replacement shouldn’t be that hard even at an angle.

    hi RF,

The Pre-comp method is great. becaus, normally a TRACKER would stop tracking as it reaches the end of the comp as it wont fins a pixel to continue tracking…right? We cant stretch the footage also. so what we do is that we tell after effects by PRE-COMP…..and adding pixels on both ends of the pre-comp depending if its an X-pan or Y-tilt.And then going back to original Composition and working on the Pre-comped source file. And then start tracking…so even if the object we are trying to tracking is moving out of the frame the tracker would still continue to track it!!!!
in my case the attach point stops to move but the the other two “boxes” continue to move in a nice straight path and track well….i want to know why doest attach point follows with them??? also the CONFIDENCE values dont get a KEYFRAME then…..??????
if someone can throw a light on this…i wud be really obliged. I know i am very close and may be missing a step…pls help.
