So here is my problem. As the subject says, I’m having trouble importing footage and I’m not sure where the problem lies. I am using FCP 6.0.6 on a dual Xeon MacPro importing from a Panny AJ-HD1400 deck via firewire 400. The tapes are supposed to be DVCPRO 50 (my boss THINKS that what he asked for) transferred over from old 3/4 tapes. I used the DV 50 – NTSC setting in easy setup and preview was disabled (as far as I can tell I’m not getting a signal into the system) though video plays on my NTSC monitor. I thought my problem could be the deck settings and I found this website (https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/sales_o/ieee1394/AJ-HD1400P_FCP51.html) and tried the suggested settings for DVCPRO 50 & DVCPRO to setup the deck but still no dice. Not sure if this matters but I never restarted FCP after making changes to the deck and easy setup, just reinitialized the digitizer. Any thoughts on what I could be doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help.

Yeah, I would quit Final Cut, take the tape out of the VTR, shut down the VTR, power up the VTR, then start Final Cut. If you have the right Easy Setup selected, you should be good to go. You may not have preview ability if you are trying to capture and preview through the same firewire connection. If your machine has a capture card, you should be able to change the preview settings to match your capture hardware and view through your ntsc monitor.
