Whats the advantage to playing out and recording on an external DVD player?”Burning with iDVD can take HOURS to compress and burn.
I don’t want to tie up the Mac for that long.
It can be done overnight, but that will give me only one DVD and (even though burning subsequent DVDs takes LESS time, they still keep the Mac tied up the following morning until they’re all done.

The Sony models I saw have a nicer looking menu than the Philips models, but I don’t think there’s any recorders out there that would have a menu even close to “advanced.” They’re just glorified VHS recorders that record onto DVD instead.

September 5, 2005 at 8:17 pmI use the Pioneer DVR-310s, and I get them on Ebay for a little over $200. No advanced menus, but you can record separate chapter points by hitting stop, then record again with each spot or segment. This means you can use the skip buttons to go quickly between spots. Doesn’t really let you build a menu with links on it though.
