Exported a QT file that has great video and audio in FCP to DVDSP. When it gets to DVDSP it doesn’t have the audio. In FCP I have an imported aif file that sometimes adds a third audio track and sounds fine. What am I doing wrong in exporting?

You can’t bring a quicktime into DVDSP. You need to bring in an MPEG-2 and AC-3 file.

I often choose the export to QT or QT Conversion if the project is under 1 hour 45 min and then import it into DVDSP with good results. And DVDSP accepted it – just no audio this time. So I am a bit confused.

Also – Is there a way I can compress one sequence in FCP while working on another sequence?

(Actually you can, Walter. DVDSP is quite capable of accepting a QT movie file and doing the compression itself.)

Yeah, I forgot they brought that in from iDVD. We never do that and I would never recommend that as it’s better to have more control over your finished product.

I totally agree re the control – but , FWIW, for client approvals (not quallity critical, say for a version cut) it’s a much faster way of knocking out a DVD… took me about half the time than the FCP-Compressor-DVDSP route, and the encoding looked OK. Will be doing it again…

Getting back to your problem, does the exported file (I’m assuming you’re exporting to QuickTime Movie) have audio in it? Did you mixdown the audio before you exported?

BTW, what versions of FCP, DVDSP, OS, and QT are you using? Things change and don’t always work the same for all versions. Be specific.

    All the best,

I’m using FCP 6 Bundle with DVDSP and QT 7. I did not mix down the audio before I exported it, but I often don’t mix down the audio and the audio always (except this time) shows up well and sounds fine.

I sent the project to compressor about 10 AM and it is still compressing. I have another project in FCP that I need to edit, but while compressor is compressing I cannot continue to edit. Is there a way that I can work on another FCP project while that is compressing?

I do appreciate all the help.

Make a QT Ref movie out of FCP then take THAT file into compressor. That will free up your FCP.

Be sure to UNCHECK the option that says “make movie self contained”

Thank you. That will really help not tying FCP up to compress.

I finally got the project compressed and put it into DVDSP and it worked. Thank you all for your help and advice. I will be able to get this to the client.

    Thanks again.
