need help fast concerning quicktime h.264 quality in afx
hi everybody,
i have a question concerning the h.264 compressor used by afx – whenever i try and compress my sequence using quicktime and then as the compressor h.264 my colours come out a lot paler even tho i put the quality to best. can anybody tell me why this happens and what i could do to avoid it?
also ( this might be a dumb question – sorry) i was wondering what actually happens when i change my quality using the slider? does afx just vary the datarate or does it also reduce the colour depth and changes the number of i-frames?thanx a lot in advance!

I don’t have a huge amount of experience in this regard, but I do know that AE is not the best compressor to use for your HD. Render it out as your favorite lossless format and use a different program to do the final encoding; things will look much better.

This After Effects Community Help search for ‘gamma h.264’ brings up several pages that lead to solutions.
The consensus seems to be that there’s a QuickTime problem that you can get around by encoding using an encoder like x264.
