  • Need help exporting OMF to a useable QT.

    Hi,

I have 97 OMF files in Avid Xpress DV 4.8 — with between 2 and 4 channels of audio. I need to export them as QT which will be useable in FCP.

I’m exporting as Quicktime Movie, Same as Source amd I’m finding:

    1. The QT ends up with mixed audio, not split audio. I can’t find settings which affect this.
    2. FCP tells me the QT file I’m trying to import is not a good one (but it imports it anyway and it seems ok apart from the audio being mixed).

    Any advice would be great.

    Thanks.

[betamac] “I’m exporting as Quicktime Movie, Same as Source amd I’m finding:”

This is your problem. If you use ‘Same as Source’ it requires the Avid Codec to be installed on your FCP system….however the Avid Codec is incompatible with the latest version of FCP—Do not install it.

Export using the Animation Codec instead.

Make sure your Avid is set for Direct Out and not stereo mix. Also, only Quicktime 7 or later support more than 2 channels of audio. You could also export each track independently as an AIFF file.

    Hi,

Many thanks for you help. My Audio Output Settings only allow me to toggle between Mono and Stereo. There is no Direct Out option. Does this mean I won’t be able to export split audio without exporting them individually?

I found an Xpress Pro pdf which says that Direct Out is only available when using an SDI Mojo. Is this also the case for Xpress DV 4.8? Sorry for my basic questions. It seems incredible that you can’t export with split audio more easily.

Not that familiar with Xpress Pro, but I think you are outta luck.
Use the AIFF output method I suggested. They will play in FCP just fine.
