I just recently started using After Effects and I have seem to hit a wall. I am creating an animated OTS graphic and I need help creating a mask (or something that will fix my problem)

Here is a picture of what I am trying to work out:
    OTS

    and here is a video:
    OTS video

As you can see in the video, sections of the OTS appear next to the TPS bug before they start to move. I would like to learn how to cover those areas (the red ones in the picture) up but still allow the video that will be behind it to show through. I tried making a mask and inverting it, but the mask still moves with the shape. I just need to hide that section.

Any help will be much appreciated.

    thank you,
    -HMNSHLD

I am not sure exactly what you are needing but…

You can set your various mark keyframes to HOLD…that way they won’t interpolate in unpredictable ways between keyframes.

Also try to use a consistent number of vertices from one mask keyframe to the next.

Make a mask on a new solid and use that solid as a track matte over the layer you want to hide?
