I have a piece of footage which looks at a computer screen, there is some information being typed that I want blurred.

I posted on the FCP forum and was told to duplicate the clip in a level above, then use a mask shape matte and then to put a blur onto the clip.

This works fine, apart from the screen is being scrolled and therefore the type I want blurred moves, so I have to make sure the matte moves in time with the scrolling of the screen.

I’m wondering if there’s an easier way to make the matte move in time with the screen, at the moment I’m re-inputting the numeric values (horizontal (H-scale V-scale & Center) while setting keyframes.

This seems rather cumbersome and I’m sure there’s an easier way to do it, I’m just not sure what it is.

Any help or links to video tutorials would be greatly appreciated, I’ve watched the ‘Tracking Vignettes’ tutorial, but it didn’t seem like the one for me.

    Many thanks.

There is no tracking function in FCP as there is in Motion. You could send the clip there and do you blur there.

Rather than inputting numerical values click on the target button and then mouse down an drag in the canvas to position the mask shape.

    All the best,
