Open the console tool in AVID and type the command renamemediafiles and hit return. The command will remain all the files on your media drives making them easy to identify and associate with each project.

If you have lots of old project media on the drives you should use the media tool to remove them from the system. If you have a large number of projects running through your system/suite then effective media management is almost as important as your ability to edit. If you cannot find resources to help with this drop me a msg and i will try and help.

    Hope that helps.

all of your clips will be in your omfi folder(s).
You’ll use media tool to manage files per project.

The built in Avid media tool is great for locating and cleaning up files associated with a project when you need to remove the files.
There are also free media tools like MediaSift and MDV that can read your OMFI database files, find all the media associated with a project and copy the files to another location.
I use them for copying media for certain projects from a MC/adrenaline desktop to a firewire external drive for editing from a notebook when I’m out of the office.

These particular tools were created to fill a gap in functionality with the Media Tool. The Avid media tool is great for some media management and is a necessary and invaluable tool for managing your projects. It is great for locating the media files for a particular project for purposes of cleaning out old precompose files, unused clips, etc… It is a tool you should be very familiar with.
MDV and MediaSift are extremely easy utilities (and FREE) that provide a quick and efficient way of collecting and copying the media files for backup or moving to a different drive. I use them regularly for copying media from one system to work on it on a different system (say from a desktop to a notebook and external drive) or if you need to give the project and media for that project to someone else to work on.

    Nope. I’m a PC user…
    got to:
    https://www.senkou.com/
Click on the “download current version” link in the upper right corner.

MDV is newer and more up to date, with support for MXF as well as OMF files (mediasift isn’t aware of MXF). You can download the latest version here:
    https://fiool.nm.ru/progz/
Click on the “Build 23” link..
