Need feedback on JKL (Rock & Roll) triming in the inline precision editor
A client is having me evaluate FCP X (v.1) to see if he and his associates will be able to adapt to it for future projects.
I have experience working on many different systems as an editor & training / support supervisor and I have found the majority of editors I have worked with often make their editorial decisions by playing the material in real time, so they can look for and feel the timing, or “beat”. Sometimes when necessary, they need to play the material back and forth over a certain section several times (using JKL on the keyboard) in order catch the rhythm of the shot (aka Rock & Roll).
I began to think FCP X might be capable of trimming material in real time using the inline precision editor after I came across this FCP X tip posted online:
Using this method, I was able to accomplish this kind of trim in the inline precision editor a few times, but then it stops working and after dozens of attempts I can’t get it to work again.
Now I gotten to the point where I REALLY want this to work, and I’m hoping collective experience of the Creative Cow professionals can give me some insight as to whether or not it’s possible for this technique to actually work on a consistent basis.
Have you tried this technique ?
Can you get it work for you consistently ?
If so, It would be great if you could pass on any & all tips.Any & all serious replies will be greatly appreciated.

Please accept my apologies in regards to the above post.
I was able to contact tip’s author directly and he has retracted the post and submitted feedback to Apple. I’m guessing that he has also experienced first hand that success this functionality in the current version should be considered unstable at best.
I will keep my fingers crossed Apple will address this issue in it’s first update.
