    Good morning,
Possibly some one out there in the forum could direct
me to a “program” that would record audio and at the
same time any thing appearing on my editing computer
screen. I see this used very often on tutorials etc.
most notetably on Vasst training DVD’s
Every now and then I have an instructor come over and
show me new things on my computer in relationship to
editing and special FX. I usually use a camera over
his shoulder and directed at the computer screen to
record his instructions for later play back.
There must be a better way !!!!
Is there a cost effective solution???

    Thanks for your help

We use Camtasia Studio at VASST. You can click on one of the ad links here at the Cow to get to TechSmith, the company that makes Camtasia. There are several free screen capture utilities but the secret to good captures is having a codec that compresses PC video well and that’s where Camtasia shines. The TechSmith codec is lossless so you get exactly what you captured. Camtasia also has a complete editing application and will render to many popular formats for YouTube, Flash, h.264 (mp4), etc. They have a free trial so you have nothing to loose.

TechSmith also has a free offering called Jing. This is a really easy way to record your desktop to Flash video files that can easily be shared. Jing also has a Pro version that gives you more output options. If this is just for occasional use, Jing might be just the thing.
