Need blue ray advice
Posted by Tom Alexander on April 14, 2010 at 5:50 pmI’m using an i7 imac with Final Cut Pro 7 and Sony xdcam ex. I need to burn blue ray discs so I’m considering buying a Lacie d2 blue ray drive and will be limited to connecting it with high speed usb 2.0 since the only firewire port is connected to my g-raid.
Will this work?

April 14, 2010 at 6:39 pmI use the Blu-ray burner from OWC which has FW800 connectivity. I wouldn’t want USB speed compared to what I’ve got.

April 14, 2010 at 7:12 pmI have the Lacie via USB and do it all the time. The USB bus speed is not a problem with the burning speed and data throughput during a burn.
Burn away….
Oh, and buy good media.

April 15, 2010 at 12:42 amGood media is usually the unbranded and spindled media purchased from dealers. Media found in local office supply stores is usually lower quality stock made in lesser factories.
I buy only Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R media.
Yes, Blu Ray is slow. But you have to account for the fact that DVD can burn at up to 8x (I only burn at 4x or less) and Blu Ray burns at 2x but has about 5 times the data on a full disc).
