I want to start a movie with Black background and Titles and into text to scroll up in the right hand of the screen (This not an issue). But I want to show images on the left synced to the music. I want to fade in the images from black and then fade out in black. Just small glimpses from the movie that is going to be presented. What is the best way to do it. How can I mask an image so only part of the image shows up. I hope I am making sense. i can see it happening in my mind but trying to figure out a good way to put it in FCP.
    Thanks

There is a Mask tool in the Keying effects.
Don’t forget there’s the Crop and Transform tool built into the Viewer although that might be more awkward.

You can add a mask in the color correction tool. click on “affect outside” (not sure if this is the right translation) then lower the overall brightness to zero.

Just below this post is Simon Ubsdell’s powerful and flexible “Adjustable Frame Effect” which will allow you to create multi layers of images in their own “frames”, which is what you’re trying to do (if I understand you correctly). Simon’s effect is easy to apply.

Thanks for the nice plug, Eli. Yes, I reckon that effect would be the answer here, although I could look at something specific if you wanted, Harry.
