Hi – I am doing a sequence for a client in FCP (sped up trip from office down motorway to event venue). The event is a kind of space theme and they want an animated comet doing a kind of ‘follow me’ thing on screen whilst this runs – turning and moving etc. I have tried various things in motion but it is not particularly good. I can’t see the kind of thing I want on the usual Digital Juice kind of sites. Does anyone have or know where I can get something that will work reasonably convincingly?

    Thanks, Martin.

Have you tried looking in Livetype?

    Martin,

particleillusion is perfect for this, as is Particular in AE. I’m sure you could do it in Motion too, it can use some of pi’s emitters. You will have to track it through your video but it shouldn’t be too hard. I’d just keyframe it manually.

You could try LiveType, but I don’t know how well you can track stuff in there, most of it is pretty canned.

    Have a wonderful day.

Thanks for advice – I have concocted something in Motiion and done an alternative based on the Livetype Comet. HOpefully they will like one of them. Thanks for the info on particleillusion – looks great.

    Martin.

    > Thanks for the info on particleillusion – looks great. < Like RTFM (which is my favorite), this seems to be a universal response to many Motion and After Effects particle inquiries. Trapcode's products are fabulous, no doubt, but they're not cheap and they supplement a huge library of existing stuff you already own in Motion. I really don't like Motion's interface (compared to AE, personal problem, I'm dealing with it) but I love playing around with the emitters. If I could only get them to do something expected, repeatable and planned, which I can't (I'm working on it). bogiesan

    Hey David,

I’m with you on Motion, just can’t get my head around it, but I’ll tell ya, particleillusion is probably the easiest particle system out there. It integrates pretty well with AE too, there are tuts on the Cow on the two, pretty cool.

    Have a wonderful day.
